Architecture Narration


 For my second-ever attempt to build a scene in Unreal Engine I was tasked with creating a space with narrative value - a space capable of telling a story with three words or fewer presented to the player.

In my scene the player spawns at an airplane crash site in the middle of the forest. The player is presented with an image of their missing friend and prompted with the word “Trouver“ (find). The player must follow a scavenger hunt through the forest, with various breadcrumb trails leading the way (including garments the missing friend was wearing in the image).

The forest contains 2 simple navigation challenges and a nice “vista moment“ when the player reaches the edge of the forest. At the edge there is a cliff from which a settlement can be seen. As the player works their way down to the village, darkness falls and the grim nature of the fate of the missing friend is revealed.
